For the first time, all the girls were housed without regard to race or country. Neither did all nonwhite contestants get a special hostess as before.

Sugar performance in 2012 - Tony Viera

Every year I give my analysis of how our sugar Industry performed in the previous year, here is my report for 2012.

All estates are showing signs of poor labour turnout. In the year 2012 the industry showed the factories standing idle, out of cane and not grinding, during the first and second crops a total of 10,527 hours. The actual time the factories worked during the year was 21,623 hours this means that due to an acute shortage of labour to cut the cane the factories were standing idle 50% of the time during the crops waiting for the cane to be delivered, needless to say that during a substantial part of this time the factory’s workers had to be paid for standing by doing nothing.

A plea to President Obama and the Government of the United States of America

Scales of Justice

After the sudden demise by “hanging” of a suspect in the murder of a United States Army doctor on a visit to Guyana, we implore the President and the Government of the United States of America to intervene in the justice system in Guyana.

During the last 20 years there have been hundreds (possibly thousands) of unsolved murders and deaths in Guyana.

Doctors from Utah provide glasses for needy in Guyana

A woman is finally able to read with new glasses donated by Utah residents

More than 2,000 pairs of eyeglasses from Utah recently found new homes -- in Guyana.

Used glasses, often relegated to the backs of drawers, went to good use by people too poor to afford glasses or eye exams. Twenty-two Utahns, including several optometrists, made a humanitarian trip to provide eye care in the Third World country in South America.
